The Project 2-1 Aide will assist the Site Coordinator and Lead Teacher in the supervision and instruction of middle school students at their school, the YMCA and various other community venues.  Typical daily activities will include:  assisting with computer based academic instruction, supervising students during an afterschool snack period, coordinating student transportation, and leading or assisting with a variety of creative learning and/or recreational activities.  

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Demonstrated ability to work with young adolescents, especially those who are academically at-risk
    2. Ability to interact effectively with parents, staff, school personnel and the broader community
    3. Ability to function well as a team member
    4. Ability to enforce rules, safety policies, procedures and practices
    5. Ability to work with computers including web based learning and reporting tools
    6. Prior recreational or similar youth leadership experience
    7. High energy, positive role model, willing to be actively engaged with students throughout all program 
    activities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, assist with computer based academic instruction daily
  2. Work with Site Coordinator to coordinate student afterschool snacks
  3. Work with staff team to coordinate student transportation to the YMCA and other community sites
  4. Provide direct leadership for small group activities which may include: sports, fitness and recreation;
    hands-on science, arts activities, outdoor education, drug abuse prevention, community service, and 
    other enrichment opportunities
  5. Assist with record keeping tasks such as student attendance, progress reports, etc…
  6. Assist with the minimal housekeeping and daily clean-up of facilities
  7. Participate in staff training events, as assigned
  8. Participate in family strengthening activities, as assigned
